abt, 1604-1648Tradition says that the Day family originally came from Wales. This isprobably correct as in a book of Heraldry it says that a Day is descendedfrom the Dees of Wales. Dee, meaning dark or dingy, is the name of ariver and was probably applied to some ancestor who lived on its banks todistinguish him from another. It came to be written Daye or Day. Thename still prevails in Wales.
Robert Day came to America from Ipswich, England, on the ship the"Elizabeth" with his wife Mary aged 28. They first settled in Newtown,now Cambridge, Mass. His wife probably died soon after. Became aFreeman in 1635. In 1639 he was living in Hartford, Conn. He wasprobably one of the company of 100 who went with Hooker in 1636. Hisname is on the monument to the founders of Hartford. His second wife wasEditha Stebbins, a sister of Deacon Edward Stebbins (or Stebbing) ofHartford. He and Editha were the parents of our branch of the Day line.Came to America from Ipswich, England on the ship "Elizabeth". He was30 at that time and his wife Mary was 28. She died soon after that. [lindsay.FTW]Built the first meeting house in Springfield and the town paid him fourscore pounds for it. Served 17 years on the board of selectmen. Was adeputy fo the general court in 1688. Served on many importantcommittees. Was an active business man and had extensive dealings withPynchon,of whom he bought trading cloth and other goods to exchange withthe Indians for beaver skins. He was a Lieut. in King Phillips War. Hewas killed when the town was burned by the Indians.

Obituary for Yvonne M. MaddoxAstoria Resident
Yvonne M. Maddox, 58, of Astoria, died friday, Nov. 9, in Astoria.
Mrs. Maddox was born 24 Aug. 1936, in Yakima, Wash., to Ralph and Irene Shelly Emerson. She was raised in the Seattle area, and was educated there. She lived in Boston three years, moving to Oregon in1968. For the last several years, Astoria was her home. She married Jim Guritz. He survives.
Mrs. Maddox will be remembered as being fond of her chihuahua puppy, "Lucky in Love Guritz".
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Eagles Auxiliary and the Seaside Moose Auxiliary.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Maddox is survived by a daughter, Melinda Lee Humphery of Modesto, California. one brother, Jim Emerson of Seattle, and a sister, Janet Chance of Modesto.
At her request there will be no service. Disposition was private.
Memorial contributions may be made to Astoria Eagles Lodge or the charity of ones choice.
Caldwell's Luce Layton Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
