Giles DAY

Giles Day
1748-1795

His tombstone in Marlborough, Vt. reads "In memory of/ Mr. Giles Day/ hedied Aug. 31, 1795  aged 47/  Death is a debt to Nature due Which Ihave paid and so must  you.  In 1780, Giles Day purchased land in Marlborough and in 1781 deeded his property in West Springfield to his brother Jacob and moved to Marlborough.  He took the freeman's oath in Marlborough Jan. 1781.  Giles Day served in the Revolution as Corp. in Capt. John Morgan's Co., Col. Ruggles Woodbridge's Regiment.  Engaged Aug. 24, 1777.  Served one month and 22 days.  With 20 others is reported to have deserted Oct. 27, 1777.  HIs wife,  Sarah Day Day,  was made administrater of the estate of Giles Day, and was later appointed guardian of the children.  An inventory of Giles Day's estate is on file in the Brattleboro, Vt. Probate Office.
