Samuel SMITH Cpt.

First son of Samuel, Sr.  Was very prominent in history of the times, Cpt. of Militia and in the Rev. War, served in committees, etc. of government.

Died of Apoplexy.  Vital Records of Topsfield, 250.


Priscilla GOULD

This Pricilla Gould is not the same person as the first wife of the same name, she is the first cousin to the first wife Pricilla Gould, same name.

The Goulds descended from the thirteenth centurey crusader, John Gale.  One of their number was mayor of Exon, England.  Priscilla's grandfather, John Zaccheus, was a wealthy landowner in Topsfield, MA.  He was a forthright man, insisting on hs civil and relidougs rights at al perils.  Because of his outspokenness he was deprived of his office of lieutenant, to be reinstated later.  He once got himself into trouble for offendign a magistrate and told him, "You are no judge of ye Court!"  On another occasion he uttered what was labeled "malicious, treasonable, and seditous speeches: against the king."
