BIOGRAPHY OF WINNIE SMITH LYONS: “A birthright Quaker, at the age of seventeen, she joined the Methodist Church, of which she was a devoted member until her death. For many years she taught a Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Eastern Star The Women’s Relief Corps, at Kansas Council of Women, and the American War Mothers, of which she State President from 1944 to 1946, an office to which she was elected in her 88th year. She was interested in current events, and kept many scrapbooks on various subjects. She is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery at Lawrence, Kansas. “(R108).
BIOGRAPHY OF WILLIAM DANIEL LYONS: “Williams Daniel Lyons was born at Bridgeton, Park Co., Indiana, Dec. 24, 1846, and died at his home in Lawrence, on Dec. 11, 1932. He was the son of George Washington Lyons and Sarah (Harding). Lyons. His parents both died in his early childhood and he was brought up by his Grandmother her home with their aunt, Mrs. Clinton searing.
“His childhood and youth were spent in an atmosphere of political dissension. In May 1864, at the age of seventeen, he enlisted in the Union Army and served in the 133rd Indiana Infantry for a period of six months. Though he saw no actual engagements, his regiment was sent to Alabama to guard Commissary stores and he was detailed to picket duty.
“In 1866, he cane to Kansas, remaining for about six months at Twin Mounds, in Douglas Country, with former neighbors who had come to Kansas. In 1868 he again came to Kansas, this time to remain. From 1863 to 1874, he took part in various enterprises incident to the development of a new community. For several years, he drove transfer’ for the James Anderson Transfer Co., with headquarters in Lawrence, which conveyed goods to towns in Eastern Kansas not served by railway.
“With an uncle (by marriage). Clinton Searing, he was engaged in gardening in North Lawrence during the historic ‘grasshopper invasion’ of 1874-75.
“On September 29, 1875, he was married to Edwina Lydia (“Winnie”). Smith, daughter of Edwin and Lydia (Hiatt). Smith, at Twin Mounds, Kansas. After that date he was engaged principally in farming. In Lawrence, where he lived until 1918, when he retired to Lawrence. He is burried in Memorial Park Cemetery, at Lawrence, Kansas.” (R108).

Isaac T. Gibson, farmer, was born in Greene County, near Oldtown, Ohio in 1831 and is a son of Montelian and Sarah (Embree) Gibson, the former a native of Loudoun County, Va., and as both his parents died in that State, he came, in 1805, an orphan lad, to the Buckeye State. He learned the trade of milling at Ellicott's Mills, Va., and after he came to Ohio, hired to Thomas Embree whose mills were situated on the Little Miami River, near Oldtown. For many years he managed the mill, and later married Sarah, the daughter of his employer.
