Ben Bales, son of John and Sarah Ann Bales, was born Oct. 8th 1774 (sic s/b 1854) in Jefferson county, Iowa.
At the age of eighteen he came with his parents to Nebraska, his parents taking a homestead two miles west of Waterbury.
On Mar 16th 1882 he was united in marriage with Fannie E. Wright, they making their home near that of his parents
To this union were born twelve children, nine of whom are living.
He was a member of the Friends Church and took an active part in all church affairs until ill health prevented further participation.
On September 12th, 1937 his death occurred at the age of 82 years, 11 months and 4 days.
He was preceded in death by his wife, who passed away Jun 21st, 1935, and leaves three sons, Louis Bales of Allen, Ray Bales of Sioux City, Ia, Alden Bales of Kansas City, MO; six daughters, Mrs Allie Ellis of Allen, Mrs. Eva Roberts of Allen, Mrs. Lavina Montgomery of Birmingham, Wash., Mrs. Bessie Foster of Ackley, Iowa, Mrs. Verlie Johnson of Sioux City, Ia.; two brothers, William of Dayton, Wash. and Frank, of Central City, Nebr. and one sister, Mrs. Annis Hoopengarner of Canoga, Calif.
Among other cousins and relatives he leaves his cousin, Charles M. Bales of Allen, also 22 grand children and seven great grand children.
He was a kind and loving father, a good citizen and among his many friends who knew him well, he will ever be remembered for his cheerfulness and willingness to help others in the time of trouble.
Service at Friend’s Church, Wednesday, Sept. 15th, Rev. Slands (Stands?) and Rev. Ralph Clem officiating. Burial in Friends Cemetery.

Find A Grave Memorial# 62660667Fannie E. Wright, daughter of Hiram and Mina Wright was born 26 Dec 1865 at their home in Iowa, and died at the St. Vincent Hospital in Sioux City June 21 1935 at the age of 70 years, 5 months and 26 day.
At the age of twelve she accompanied her parents to Nebraska where they made their home and she spent her girlhood days on a farm in the Harmony Hill neighborhood.
On March 16, 1882 she was united in marriage with Ben Bales and to this happy union were born twelve children three of whom, Archie LeRoy age 5, Lois Mae age 3 and Elmina Ann Ingalls age 36, preceeded her in death.
In early life she united with the Friends church at Springbank and has ever been an ardent Chisten (sic) worker.
Always a thoughtful kind loving wife and mother, ever thinking of the welfare of her family, trying to teach her children the right way to live. Unselfish in her daily life, she trusted in God for spiritual and physical strength to carry her through.
Words fail in trying to express our loss, but our loss is her gain.
She leaves to mourn her loss her husband Ben Bales and nine children, Eva Roberts, Olive Ellis, Lewis Bales of Allen, Bessie Foster of Appelton City, Mo., Levina Overman, Verlie Johnson, Raymond Bales of Sioux City, Sammel (sic) Bales of Kansas City, Mo. and Ruby Carr of Del Monte, Caifornia (sic). One brother Edd Wright of Portland, O.r,(sic) one sister Jennie Bales of Dayton, Washington, twenty grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday June 23 at 2:30 in the Springbank church. Rev. Clem of Dakota City was in charge.
She was laid to rest beside her departed children in the church cemetery.
Her remains were carried to its last resting place by six of her grandchildren.
