Robert HAINES

See pg. 216 of Richard Haines Gen. by John W. Haines  Book presented to us by Annis Bales of Linneus, MO.  Nov. 1992.
Robert Haines, son of Bethaniah, (son of Richard, Jr. son of Richard, Sr.) of Frederick Co., Va. b. 9 mo. (Nov) 27 1736 (the last 3d day of the month); d. 1796, m. 1st, Opeckon MH, under the care of Hopewell MM, Va., 2 mo 12, 1767, Esther (Hiatt) Wright; who was born probably in Bucks Co., Penn., either 2 mo. (Apr.) 1, 1731, or 4 mo. (June) 1, 1731;  d. Frederick Co., Va., 6 mo., 3, 1778; daughter of George and Martha Wakefield) HIatt and widow of Thomas Wright.  Both were ministers in the Society of Friends.  He owned proprety in Frederick Co., part of which was near Chester's Gap.  In 1788 Front Royal, now Warren Co., was laid out on this piece of land, togetheer with lands owned by others.  In 1758, wheen Colonel George Washington was elected to the House of Burgesses, he was a voter in Frederick Co. and voted for Colonel Martin and Captain Swearingen.  His will was dateed 1 mo. 9, 1796, and was probated Feb. 3, 1796. Bethanah HAINES

From Richard Haines and His Descendents, by John W. Haines, pg 102.

He was a resident of Frederick Co., Va. in 1747.  No record of him after
that date has been found, and whether or not he remained in Frederick Co. or
vicinity is not known.  He m. Mary whose identity has not been established.
Since there is not record of the date he removed from New Jersey to Virginia,
it is not known whether his marriage took place in the former or latter state, or elsewhere.  It was not a happy marriage.  On Jan 11, 1747/8 Bethanah Haines and his wife Mary agreed to separate because of differences, disputes and quarrels.  On the same date he made a deed of gift to his son Robert.  There is no such concrete evidence that Hannah, Zilpha, Mary and Rebecca were also his daughters, but is is reasonable to suppose so.  When Mary was married in 1760, she is referred to as Mary Haines, Jr.  Mary Haines, Robert Haines and Rebecca Haines were witnesses to his marriage and all their names appear in the right hand column, where members of the family usually signed.  Anthony and Zilpha Moore were also witnesses.  When Robert Haines was married in 1780, the Alexander Oglesby family, the Anthony Moore family and the Robert Rea family were all witnesses.  Their attendance to other marriages at Crooked Run MM indicate the probability that they were members of one family.
It is likely that Mary Haines was the one who was living at Crooked Run on 12 mo, 20, 1758, when she was visited by Joshua Brown, also the one who on
October 31, 1768, leased land to Anthony Moore, also the one who decease on
8 mo, 2, 1786 is recorded at Crooked Run MM.  See pages 102-103 of Haines Genealogy.  [Ref: Richard Haines - Haines Ancestryh, pg 35, Hopewell Friend's History, pp. 241, 257, 272, 471.  Frederick Co., VA.
