Enos R. Hiatt, photographer of Winchester, was born at Farmland, Randolph
County, Ind, Mary 17, 1861; son of Eli and Anna (Hiatt) Hiatt. His father was born southwest of Farmland in 1828, and died in Missouri in 1869. The mother also was born in this county in 1831, and now lives in Winchester. Mr. Hiatt is the younger of two living children. He passed his early boyhood on the farm until sixteen years of age, when he came to Winchester. At seventeen years of age he began the study of photography in the gallery of James Charles. In 1879 he began the business for himself, and seven years ago he took up his present location on east Franklin street. Mr. Hiatt was married in 1883, to Miss Mary Elizabeth Stanley, who was born at Farmland in 1863. This union has been blesses with one child, Rea. In politics Mr. Hiatt is a republican and is religion he and wife are members of the Society of Friends. Mr. Hiatt is a fine artist and has been quite successful in his business career. His gallery is inviting in appearance, and everything about the establishment denotes good taste and refinement of the part of the proprietor. His photographs are produced in the highest style of the art, and have never failed to give satisfaction to his patrons.History of Randolph Co., IN pg. 316
Enos R. HIATT was born May 17, 1861, near Farmland, Randolph Co., IN. His father, Eli HIATT, removed with his family to MO, wehre he died in 1869, his wife remaining there until 1873, when she returned with her family to Randolph Co., locating within four miles of Farmland. Teh subject of this sketch rented a portion of his grandfather's farm, which he cultivated during hte years 1875 and 1876, and in 1877, came to Winchester, where he was engaged at sign painting and similiar employment until the witer of 1879. At that time he beganto learn the art of Photography with James Charles. In April 1880, after three months, he purchased the gallery and accessories of Mr. Charles, and has ever since conducted the business successfully at the old stand. He is a young man of gerat energy, and exhibits good business traits in the conduct of his gallery. He is enthusiastic and enterprising in the prosecution of his chosen work, and merits the patronatge and encougement of the public.From Annis and Mayme Bales, Linneus, MO, 1994: Their books, etc., given to LDS to microfilm their records, 1994. Eli H. HIATT, died in MO 1869; in 1873, Enos R., his mother & family, returned to Randolph Co., IN.
