Cherokee Removal 1836-1838

This company was discharged at the end of the enlistment

service, and on  July 10, 1837, Captain Vernon enrolled a new

company composed of many of  the former company members.  They

were mustered into service at Cherokee  Agency on July 12, 1837

and discharged at Fort Cass Tennessee (near the  Agency) on July

12, 1838. The following is a muster roll of this company

Captain Jacob Peak had another company in the same regiment

along with  Capt. Vernon.  While most of Peak's company was from

Roane County,  several soldiers who later became citizens of

Meigs were in his company,  notably Jacob Peak, Elijah McPherson

and John Woolsey...
