Sarah (Sallie) Fergerson and Johnston Shelton were married in 1811, in Adair
County, Kentucky. Stephen Fergerson's name appears in the marriage index. It is
thought that Stephen Fergerson was her father. Johnston and Sallie were in IL by
1818 or so, and removed to Texas about 1844. Johnston Shelton was a surveyor by
trade. Seeking to correspond with anyone who has knowledge of the Fergerson
family of Adair Co KY ca 1810 (who probably first settled in NC). marcyp@ghg.ne

Looking for Information on Nancy Gillespie. She had married Thomas Ferguson,
Jr and they settled in Knox Co., Kentucky. Supposedly she died there because
soon after that Thomas was married to Nancy Young. Nancy Gillespie was first
married to John Bowen in Virginia. He was killed at the Battle of Kings
Mountain. The family was angry at all Ferguson's and thus when Nancy married
Thomas the Bowen's grew quite upset and went to court over the dau of John and
Nancy. Nancy lost. I believe Nancy Gillespie changed her name to Nancy Young
after the Gillespie's and Bowen's turned their back on her. If you have
information on Nancy Gillespie or Young I would be interested.
Thanks, Dee Ferguson Sutton

Kate Lucas to Terry McLean:
"...Margarette GILLESPIE TRIMBLE CLEMENS had one brother and at least four
sisters, all of whom are mentioned below in a statement prepared by the late Dr.
William C. DAVIS of Smithland, Ky. who was a grandson of James Ford CLEMENS who
was a half brother of Isaac TRIMBLE:
"Gersham CLEMENS: his first wife was a daughter of David USHER of Virginia by
whom he had six sons and three daughters. His sons were Usher, Samuel, David,
Jeremiah, Jonathan and Robert; his daughters were Elizabeth, Sarah and Jane.
Robert and Jane were twins.  After his wife's death he then married a widow by
the name of Margarette TRIMBLE by whom he had two sons, James F. and Gershom G.
His last wife had two children by her first husband, Katie and Isaac TRIMBLE.
Katie married Joseph HANDLIN by whom she had two sons and four daughters. The
boys were William W. (who is practicing law in New Orleans and is very wealthy)
and Isaac T. who was also a practicing attorney-at-law in Smithland, Livingston
County, Kentucky but is now dead.  The girls were Elizabeth (married Rev.
Calvert THRELKELD), Margarette (married James WORTEN), Mary L. (married Dr. H.
H. DULEY) and Caroline, who died young. Isaac TRIMBLE, now deceased, left a
large family who live principally in Livingston County. James F. CLEMENS (my
grandfather) married Louisa E. ROBERTSON by whom he had eight girls and two
boys, most of them now deceased. Gersham CLEMENS, Jr. married Mary LEMON by whom
he had two sons, Frank and John E. 'Jack' who lives in Cloud County, Kansas.
My great grandmother's name was Margarette GILLESPIE (J.F.C.'s  mother) and
her mother was a PICKENS from South Carolina. Margarette GILLESPIE had one
brother, John P., and five (sic) sisters.  They were Nellie (who married James
COSBY), Fannie (who married John BROWN), Elizabeth (who married James HARRIS)
and Lemma (who married David B. CLEMENS). John P. GILLESPIE married a GLOVER and
Margarette first married James TRIMBLE and second Gersham CLEMENS. All of
Margarette's sisters (except Lemma) and brother moved from Livingston County in
1825 to the banks of the Obion River in Tennessee."

STATEMENT OF DESCENT of Isaac TRIMBLE: [FILE: Enc #262]
"State of Kentucky, County of Livingston.
A Statement of Descent. William PICKENS, a native of South Carolina, was a
soldier of the Revolutionary War (1776) and died in the year about 1841. His
sister, Francis-er, [the name 'Francis-er' is crossed out] Fannie PICKENS,
married John GILLESPIE [ERROR - see note - tmc] and was the mother of Margaret
GILLESPIE, who married James TRIMBLE, from which marriage was born Isaac &
Catherine TRIMBLE. Catherine TRIMBLE was married in 1828 to Joseph T. HANDLEY,
from which marriage was born William W. (HANDLIN), Isaac T. (HANDLIN),
Elizabeth, Margaret, Mary L., and Caroline HANDLIN.
I - Isaac TRIMBLE, do hereby certify that the foregoing is true and correct,
according to my best recollection, of my own descent, and that of my sister,
Catherine HANDLIN. I was born on the 4 day of December 1810.
    Signed: April 16th, 1891 - Isaac TRIMBLE"
ERROR NOTE: in an 1885 statement, Isaac names Fannie's husband as 'William
GILLESPIE'. Several researchers tend to concur that the earlier statement, is
more likely correct. The reasons include the fact that the 1891 statement was
prepared by someone else for Isaac to sign, and this was done just 5 months
prior to his death. We could infer that he may have been in poor health, and
either his memory failed, or he made an incorrect statement, and failed to
recognize it when he signed the statement.
The statement he made 6 years earlier, could be assumed to have been made when
he was in better physical and/or mental health. Also the name 'William' is
better supported by additional evidence and appears to be correct - tmc.
