!PARENTS-RESIDENCE: E. M. Sharp, PICKENS FAMILIES OF THE SOUTH; ; author,
Memhis TN 1963; p. 31; copy in possession of Terry McLean, Anaheim CA.=======================================================================
From Bob Thompson:
See the following exerpt from letter by Hibernia Hughes to Sarah Miller,
1/23/1833:
Cousin Robert's death was a shocking affair, he was shot by a trifling
gambling scoundrel, and died in eight hours after; and his Brother John Sample
has moved over and taken possession of every thing, he says he intends being
appointed guardian for his sister that is living with Mother, but he is in as
much need of a guardian as she is, for he is a wild Harum Scarum fellow,
Mother and Brother Phil went over the river last week to see some thing about
Roberts affairs but John was not there and they could not do any thing.
Mother says she wishes you to till Cousin Andrew, please to ask Uncle if ever
he gave little Robert any money or any thing for Peggy . She says she wishes
to know and will be much oblige Cousin Andrew or Uncle if they will write
immediately and give her a statement of the whole affair..."
--
A possible John S. Miller listed in Adams County census in 1830 as follows:
1 Male 20-40; 2 Males under 10; No females
This needs to be checked . Robert Miller, John S. Miller's son, was still a
minor at his death in 1835, but was purchasing land in 1839, i.e. late teens
in 1835, older than 10 in 1830.
Another possibility is the John S. Miller in Claiborne County:
1 Male 20-40; 3 Males 10-20; 1 Male under 10PICKENS FAMILIES OF THE SOUTH, by E. M. Sharp (priv. pub. 1963).
p. 31. "Children named in the papers [of Andrew MILLER]: Robert MILLER;
John S. MILLER; Jane MILLER; Margaret MILLER.
Family traditions indicate that some of them went to Louisiana and lived in
Concordia Parish, across the river from Natchez."

From Bob Thompson:
Martha Miller is listed as the natural tutrix of Samuel Miller, one of the
heirs of John S. Miller. However, in Succession Book I, p.258, James Miller is
stated in his bond (dated December 1838) as having been appointed Tutor of the
minor Samuel Miller son and heir of John S. & Martha Miller, deceased.
Presumably Martha died shortly before his appointment.
Jessie Thomas says Martha Gibson was John S. Miller's second wife, and that
he had a child prior to his second marriage. Martha Gibson was married first
to Henry Middleton. She says Martha Gibson Middleton Miller and her family
lived near Port Gibson, Mississippi.
Perhaps Robert is the son by the first wife, since Martha is mentioned as
natural tutrix of Samuel after John S. Miller's death. James Miller was
appointed tutor of Robert, who was named as son and heir of John S. Miller in
Appointment dated 9 Jan 1834 (Deed Book F, page 540)
