From Don Fink:
Attributed to Kenneth Felton-- Jan 25, 1997
"During the Civil War, Hugh Dyke served in the 9th Tennessee Cavalry
Regiment of the Union Army. He received an injury to his right arm, in the
line of duty, at Morristown, Tennessee, on or about Dec. 1, 1864. He suffered
from rheumatism, soon after this injury, and rheumatism bothered him
throughout the rest of his life.
After the Civil War, Hugh DYKE returned to live in Greeneville, Tennessee.
During the early 1870's, the DYKE family moved to Missouri. While in Missouri,
Hugh worked as a farmer.
Hugh and Hanna had 10 children during their marriage. The DYKE family moved
to Williams, California about 1881.
-------------------
From "The Daily Colusa Sun" Wed. Dec. 2, 1931
"Hugh Douglas DYKE, past 96 years of age, died last night in Williams at the
DYKE home over which Mrs. Viola GREENWOOD, a granddaughter, presided. The
venerable Civil War veteran was probably the oldest man in Colusa County, and
up to his recent illness, was active and alive to affairs of the community.
The funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. from the home with Rev. Kidd of
Williams church in charge of the last rites. Interment will be made by J. D.
McNary & Son in the Williams cemetery.
The venerable Colusan had an adventurous life and was an interesting
character. He was born in Greenville, Tenn., September 29, 1835. On Aug. 7,
1863, he enlisted with Co. C, Ninth regiment of Tennessee Cavalry and saw
active service in the last days of the war.
In 1881 he crossed the plains with his wife and eight children for
California.
The surviving children are: J. D. DYKE of Alaska; Mrs. Georgia FITZHUGH of
Sacramento; Miss Amy DYKE of Saratoga, former public health nurse of Colusa
county; and W. E. DYKE of Williams; Mrs. Robert DYKE of Sacramento; and Mrs.
Sarah CARPENTER of Williams. There are seven grandchildren and ten great
grandchildren surviving."

From the "Colusa Daily Sun" Mon. Dec. 9, 1929
" Mrs. Hanna Jane DYKE, 92, mother of Miss Amy DYKE, Colusa county school
nurse, died at her home in Williams this afternoon, closing a busy and
eventful life, devoted to her home and family.
The funeral will take place Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the late

Williams cemetery under direction of J. D. McNary & Son.
The venerable matron, who had lived 48 years in Colusa county and who not
long ago celebrated her 74th wedding anniversary with an airplane trip over
her home city, was born in Green county, Tennessee, on June 13, 1887. She was
married in 1855 to Hugh D. DYKE, Civil War veteran with an honorable record.
In 1881 they came to this county, establishing their home at Williams, where
they have lived and reared an estimable family, respected and worth while in
their respective home centers.
Ten children were born to the union. Of these, six survive: Robert and Amy
and William DYKE of Williams; John D. DYKE of Alaska; Mrs. Charles FITZHUGH
of Sacramento; Mrs. Sarah BURNHAM of Williams. The venerable husband, now in
his 95th year, also survives. Mrs. Viola FELTON, a grandchild, of Sacramento,
