George Washington DAVIS

6. George W. Davis - married Mary Melissa Roberts and this family consisted of four sons and four daughters. One son, Austin (age 2 years) and one daughter Florence (age 6 years) passed away and are buried near their parents. Three sons Orrin G. Born 1869, William Perry born 1872 and Charlie born 1882. Three daughters Francis born 1866, Edith born 1876 and Sarah Louisa (Sadie) born 1878 and now residing with her daughter Garnet in Moravia, Iowa. George Washington Davis was in the Civil War four years (1861 - 65) as a Calgary man I - 9th Division of New York State. His horse was shot from under him and he was taken prisoner and put in Libby prison. While there he became ill because of food provided to prisoners, which later caused his death at age 63. When he returned from the war, he moved West with his family and build the house now standing at the Don Self farm. He lived only a short time after moving into house. Sadie was 12 years old when he passed away. George and his two older sons Orrin and will operated a cheese factory which stood in the corner on the west side of the lane that led to the Charlie Fulton farm. Later the factory building was moved to the orchard across the road near the well in the Northeast corner of the family home yard (this well still stands there). As each time married, he lived in this building which was made into a house until he had a place of his own.

It i hoped that this list of the "family Tree" is as correct as possible to date (Dec 1971)  Aunt Dorthy Vance, Dad, Betty Davis along iwth Garnet and Aunt Sade and myself have accumulated the data. I have tried to put it in some kind of order. Please excuse incorrect dates, mispelling and appolgise to anyone left out. Perhaps we can revise it again later.
