1911, "JAMES DAVIS PICKENS...Mr. PICKENS was married to Miss STEPHENSON, a
daughter of the Hon. Hodge L. STEPHENSON, Feb. 12, 1840.  Mrs. STEPENSON
(PICKENS?) died March 25, 1867...Attie PICKENS was born July 16, 1856; married
to John ROBERSON on Nov 24, 1881; died April 6, 1908...has passed to her
reward, but she lives in that large family of children whom she left behind."
- Vol 21, p. 135.  "Lawrence County [AL] Character Sketches, Sep 20, 1911:
JAMES GIBSON ROBERSON...James...married Virginia Catherine NOLEN...they had
thirteen children...their second son, John Thomas, was born April 14, 1859,
and married Attie PICKENS...".

James Davis PICKENS.  James Davis PICKENS was born July 30, 1819 in Tennessee
and when he was about two years old his father moved to Lawrence County,
Alabama, and settled the place where James D. lived to the time of his death,
September 12, 1887.
 Mr. PICKENS was married to Miss STEPHENSON, a daughter of the Hon. Hodge L.
STEPHENSON, Feb. 12, 1840.  Mrs. STEPENSON (PICKENS?) died March 25, 1867...
 Their first son, William Hodge, was born Dec. 5, 1846 and died Feb. 23, 1866,
just as he was about to enter life's young manhood...Their second son, Thomas M.
PICKENS, was born Feb. 18, 1849 and married Annie MOORE, Aug 1874. His second
wife was Margarette Isabell SANDLINE, to who he was married Nov.
23, 1879.  Eliza P. PICKENS was born September 23, 1852, and married G. L.
HARRIS in 1877.  She lives in Wise County, Texas.  Mary W. PICKENS was born May
13, 1854 and married J. J. DUKEMANIER, June 15, 1874; she died June 5, 1881.
Artie PICKENS was born July 16, 1856, married to John ROBERSON on Nov. 24, 1881;
died April 6, 1908.  Rome PICKENS was born March 9, 1858, and married Lillie
BEAN, daughter of Capt. John BEAN, April 2, 1885.  James D. PICKENS, Jr.
, was born April 26, 1861; married Sardie GAINES in 1890, and is still living
in Texas.  Margarette J. PICKENS was born Oct. 5, 1864 and married George W.
JACKSON on Dec. 1, 1887..."

 Their first son, William Hodge, was born Dec. 5, 1846 and died Feb. 23,
1866, just as he was about to enter life's young manhood.  How sad that one so
young, just as he begins to view the promise [sic] land of manhood's estate,
should have to close his eyes on its beauty.  We know nothing of this
particular young man's sickness, but thousands are in their graves today who
should be alive if they had known and practiced the proper rules of health."

Rome PICKENS was born March 9, 1858, and married Lillie BEAN, daughter of Capt.
John BEAN, April 2, 1885...Another one of the PICKENS whom we have known long
and well, is Rome PICKENS.  He is a prominent minister of the Presbyterian
Church, and has been pastor of the Rock Springs Church most of his public life
and as industrious, pious, progressive set of men and women you can find
anywhere.  He and his wife have worked hard and raised a large family of
children.  He is now one ofo the Commissioners of Lawrence County, and we
doubt not but that he does his duty well..."

Margarette J. PICKENS was born Oct. 5, 1864 and married George W. JACKSON on
Dec 1, 1887...Margarette...still lives at Mt. Hope with all her children,
except Maggie, who married Dr. Frank CHENAULT, and lives in new Decatur.  She
mad Mr. JACKSON a most exemplary wife and helped him to take care of the large
estate which they own.  Since Mr. JACKSON's death, I am told that she has
taken good care of the estate and is training and educating her children well..
."
