Day, COUSIN MONROE'S HISTORY OF THE PICKENS FAMILY:
 p. 163-164. "Robert PICKENS, the youngest son of Captain Robert and Dorcas
HALLUM PICKENS, was born in Anderson County, SC May 14th 1795, and died in the
house in which he was born, November 1st, 1871. He was a farmer by occupation,
an influential citizen in  his community. Before the Civil War he owned a great
many slaves, and made his occupation as a farmer a success...
 [After his death] he was buried in the PICKENS graveyard.
 On November 17th, 1814, he married Martha (Polly) SMITH...The second wife of
Robert PICKENS was Nancy T. PEGG, whom he married April 11th, 1837...
[names of children of both marriages follow]"

 "... Unable to place thus far:
 Patty PICKENS, deceased (wife of Robert PICKENS of Bradley Co.), was named as
a daughter in the will of William SMITH 27 Oct 1829. Her children were named:
Margaret (wife of Simeon ROGERS of Forsythe Co., Georgia); W.S., Robert M.,
Martha A., James M., and Israel W. PICKENS, all of Anderson District, South
Carolina; James (deceased) also left children: William of Hamilton Co., David of
Bradley Co., and Israel G. of Green Co., Alabama. [Wills and Estate Records of
McMinn County, Tennessee 1820-1870 by Reba Bayless Boyer, 1966]

 Terry,  Thank you so much for writing in regards to Jeb Smith.  I had all
but given up on ever knowing anything more about my William Smith.
 In your notes about Patty, daughter of William you seem to have conflicting
death dates.  After reviewing my records, I show that Patty was alive at the
time of her father's death according to his Will exectued in October, 1829.
In the chancery court records of Jan. 1856 is where she is listed as
deceased.  William's Will is part of the Chancery file, so I think that is
where the confusion comes from....

 p. 163. "...Martha (Patty) SMITH [was] born August 9th, 1798, and died
December 1st, 1835. Martha SMITH was a niece of John SMITH, who married Robert
PICKENS' sister Martha PICKENS, and a sister of John and Israel SMITH who
married daughters of John PICKENS."
CONFLICT: Will of William SMITH dated 1829 names his deceased daughter and her
children.

was born March 3rd, 1842. Her husband was a minister in the Baptist Church.
They lived in Forsyth County, GA, until 1903, when they moved to Sand
Mountain, Ala., where they were living when last heard from.."
