father, Israel W. PICKENS.--------------------------------
E. M. Sharp records found in the Mississippi Archives:
James Jackson PICKENS once owned most of the land where the town of Pickens,
Miss. is now located and the town was named for him. He died in Holmes County in
1876. Apparently his widow moved to Brookhaven, Miss.... and later moved to
Texas with them."THE PICKENS FAMILY:
p.29. "James Jackson PICKENS once owned most of the land around the town of
PICKENS MS. It had ome down to him from his father, Israel W. PICKENS, and from
the BOLE family. The family had an interest in the ferry across Big Black River
known as BOLE's Ferry. Later known as PICKENS Ferry....
There are some deeds in Holmes Co., MS showing that after going to Texas,
Victoria WADE PICKENS sold her interest in the BOLEs Ferry property."
