PICKENS - HIS ANCESTORS; ; Wolfe City Texas, Hemington Publishing Company,
1989; p. 53; copy in possession of Terry McLean, Anaheim CA. Died in MS.==========================================================================
From Bob Thompson:
According to Sharpe, p. 32, Joseph Miller and Margaret Reid moved early to
Claiborne and Jefferson Co. Miss.
Hugh Reid Will dated May 15, 1820 refers to Margaret, widow of Joseph Miller
decd.
Birthdate from orignal Rev. Robert Miller Bible, as reported by
"Early Inhabitants of the Natchez District" by Norman E. Gillis lists (p. 21)
Joseph Miller and Robert Miller as inhabitants of the Natchez District in the
Spanish Census of 1792 and living in the Homochitto District. Several
references in McBee: p. 36 28 Nov 1786- Richard Harrison to Joseph Miller, 100
arpents on St. Catherine Creek....
p. 68, 20 July 1789, sold 100 arpents on St. Catherines Creek to Nathaniel
Ivy.
p. 195 testified in Case of Smith V. Smith.
p. 485 Estate of Joseph Miller, dec. 30 March 1804, claims 350 acres on
Buffalo River by residence and cultivation on 27 Oct 1795 (see also p. 586)
If the Joseph Miller in McBee is the same as settled eventually in Copiah
County, then the birth date given in family bible (1775) is unlikely. Also,
the death date above would be off, since that Joseph dead by 1804.
NB: also not the same Joseph Miller as in Ouachita Parish with Stephen C.
Miller, who gave deposition in favor of Robert Miller Jr. in January 1830 and
was listed in the 1830 Ouachita Census.

;From Don Fink: Feb, 1998.
In one of the following books it says that David R. Pickens was a
brother-in-law to Edward McMullin MORELOCK, which would make him a brother of
Elizabeth PICKENS. I believe this is in error. According to information that I
had previously, and I believe to be correct, Elizabeth's mother would have
been too young to have had David R.
I believe that David R. was a cousin of Elizabeth instead of a brother.
