 p. 89.  "Abraham PICKENS... md Elizabeth PATTERSON, dau. of John and Margaret
(BASKIN) PATTERSON of Abbeville Dist. SC and Elbert Co., GA...
"Abraham ... appears to be youngest child of Gabriel and Zerubiah PICKENS.
There are no records of his service in the revolution, though he may have served
near the end of the war in militia. He was granted or obtained land by a warrant
dated Nov. 9, 1785 from Robert ANDERSON, 'I have had measured and laid out for
Abraham PICKENS the tract 150 acres of land situated in Abbeville County on
Rosses Creek, a branch of Savannah River, bounding on William PICKENS, all other
sides vacant land... ' Surveyed Nov. 15, 1785.
"The census of 1790 shows Abraham PICKENS family with one male over 16
(himself) and 2 females (his wife and a daughter).  This seems to indicate that
Abraham had married about 1785-86. In the census of 1800 he is still in
Abbeville Dist. between ages of 26 and 45 (1755-1775).  He has one son under 10

William PICKENS settled on Globe Creek in 1807. He is not listed in census of
1810 in Abbeville Dist. The census of 1810 for Tennessee has been destroyed...
He died 1815.

Anderson/Shue, THE JOHN PICKENS FAMILY, COMBINED EDITION:
 p. 254-255.  "Additional information has been received from Mr. A. W. Staratt,
Chevy Chase, MD, concerning his ancestry...
'The father of William G. PICKENS was Abram (or Abraham) PICKENS and his
mother was Elizabeth. When they moved from Abbeville SC to Maury Co., TN in
1806, the family also included several girls; the census of 1790 shows for
Abraham PICKENS, one daughter, and the census of 1800 shows five daughters.
Abram PICKENS died in Maury County, Tenn., in February 1815; to care for his
widow, Elizabeth, the Court, on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 1815, appointed three men to
apportion one year's provisions out of the personal estate of the deceased.
(Will Book A VI Page 235). These three made a report to the Court dated March
14, 1815, entered in Minutes 2A, 1813-1816, on May 17, 1815. The reports of the
administrator of the estate of Abram PICKENS, Wm. NEILL, including the inventory
of the estate, was taken Feb. 22, 1815, and the list of property sold on March
14, 1815, were not entered in the Court's records until April 23, 1824 (Volume
C). At the time of Abram's death there were two minor sons, John O. PICKENS and
Thomas PICKENS, who are mentioned in reports filed with the Court on Feb. 15,
1827 (Wills D, Vol. 1, 1826-29, page 247). Other heirs and devisees, names in
Jan. 1827 (N457) are Margaret HENDERSON, Jane SCOTT, Elizabeth MCCALL, Hannah
PICKENS, and Wm. C. PICKENS. The census of 1820 gave Elizabeth as head of the
family, with the following children in the home: 1 male under 16; 1 male between
16 and 18; one male between 16 and 26; two females between 16 and 26.
We have been unsuccessful in efforts to ascertain the names of the parents of
Abram PICKENS, although my brother-in-law searched in the Abbeville county
records [SC] and I searched, in 1947, with the aid of Mr. A. S. SALLEY, in
Columbia SC, and, at another time, in Charleston. Land in his name was obtained
by grant and we have not found names of his connections.
It appears from the history of this family that there might be a very close
relationship between them and a John PICKENS and the SCOTTs of Virginia.
[goes on to discuss relationship of John PICKENS who md. Jane SCOTT, daughter of
Samuel SCOTT...]' ".

Duck, begins POLK's NW corner, joins line formerly market [sic] by Newton CANNON
for Samuel MCAUSTIN's 400 acrew tract. Signed, Abraham PICKENS. Wit: John

of what is now Marshall Co TN, clearing the village of Chapel Hill in 1808. Were
they relatives of Abraham's wife - tmc?
