a William PICKETT receiving 640 acres in Red River County on 18 Dec 1839. I feel

"I would be interested in a copy of Sharp's book. I have copies of a number of
pages on my line obtained from the South Caroliniana Library at USC in Columbia,
probably one of the few places that has several published Pickens Family
histories.
The info. I have from the book is on the Gabriel and Zerubiah line, I descend
from their son Jonathan--glad to pass on info. I have, seems several "cousins"
are seeking information on this line."There is a record of Jonathan Pickens rec'ng deed in Maury Co TN in 1815. He may
have come with his brother William to Maury Co before moving on, or the record
could be of his son Jonathan. see Sharp, pg 88 - tmcPICKENS FAMILIES OF THE SOUTH:
p. 76. "About the earliest record we have of [Jonathan is a] land grant in
South Carolina dated September 3, 1765 for a tract of 100 acres of land in
Granville County on Savannah River, bounded ont he SW side by Kelly and on the
south by the River. The location of this land is near the mouth of Rosses Creek.
The tract was surveyed by John PICKENS, District Surveyor. He received another
grant for 50 acres on Sep 23, 1784, surveyed by Pat. CALHOUN, D.S. and described
as bounded by the river oln the SW, by Wm. MCCOWEN on the east, and on the NW by
his own land. If he was a soldier during the revolution we have o record of it.
There is record that he received an indent in 1785 for some beeves furnished the
militia. (Appendix No. IX). The census of 1790 shows him in Abbeville District,
with 3 males above 16 and 3 females, including himself and his wife.
Working out this family has been a tedious task, depending largely on census
records and traditions. He was not in Abbeville County in 1800 and his
whereabouts have not been discovered. He may have gone to Georgia since later
census records show some grandchildren born in GA. around 1800-1805. Tradition
states they were early pioneers to Tennessee, and lived in Lincoln Co., TN but
by 1819 most of them moved to the new county of Hardin in TN. Jonathan PICKENS
Sr. is shown in the census of 1830, living in Hardin County with his wife. He
was between ages of 80-90, born between 1740/50. His wife was born between
1760/70. The two sons of Jonathan PICKENS, Sr also moved to Hardin County, as
will be shown.
Jonathan PICKENS Sr had two sons and four daughters. We have not found who his
wife was. Neither do we know names of his four daughters. The two sons appear to
have been Jonathan PICKENS, Jr., and Gabriel PICKENS."
p. 88. Tradition in this family indicates that some of the Jonathan PICKENS
family came to Tennesse quite early. The records of Maury County Tenn. have the
following deed: "Book M, p. 313, dated February 4, 1815. "Gideon PILLOW and
Joseph LAUN of Giles Co Tennessee make deed to Jonathan PICKENS of Maury County
for the sum of #395, a tract of land on Silver Creek, a fork of Fountain Creek,
a branch of Duck River" Witnesses: Phil THOMAS, Abner PILLOW, James STRETT...."

for 3 pounds 17 shillings and one penny for two beeves furnished for Militia use
in 1781 and 1782. per account from commissioners. (Sally Stub entries, No. 631,
