Notes

Andrew Jackson WHITESIDE CSA

From a letter from Bryan Howerton dated 13 Apr 2000: "The widow of Hayes Whiteside applied for a Confederate pension from Fulton County in 1907, citing his service in Co. C, 2nd Arkansas Cavalry. There is no record of Andrew J. or Hayes Whiteside in any Arkansas regiment, but that is not unusual for Trans-Mississippi regiments. They probably served in Newton's/Morgan's 2nd/5th/8th Arkansas Cavalry (a bewildering variety of regimental designations is also par for the course in the Trans-Mississippi Department). Company C of this regiment was organized at Pleasant Plains, and was comprised of men from Independence and surrounding counties. The regiment (or an element thereof) was in Oregon County, Missouri, on April 18, 1863 (probably in support of the Cape Girardeau raid), where several men deserted or were captured (the record is not clear)."

In"Whiteside(s) Listed in Compiled Military Records Washington D.C." by Don Whiteside 4 Jul 1969 is a listing under Missouri "A.J. Whitesides, private, Co. F., 4th Missouri Cavalry (original filed under Whitesides, Jackson A.)" My be this person.
