James B. DAVEE

Obit - June 12, 1980 - Mooresville, IN

James Davee, a former Morgan county auditor, welfare department director and teacher, died Saturday evening at his home at 106 Knox Street, Brooklyn. He was 88 years old and had been ill for about a year.

The son of William and Elizabeth Broyer Davee, he was born at Centerton on April 12, 1892. First Married to Blanche Trawl who preceded him in death, he married Bonnie Gregory in 1957, and she survives.

Davee was a veteran of World War I. He was a member of the Brooklyn Masonic Lodge and Brooklyn Christian Church, where his funeral was Tuesday afternoon with the reverand Robert Pickeral officiating. Burial was in Brooklyn Cemetery.

Davee's real love was in teaching school. He taught at Mooresville and Brooklyn and was principal at Walnut Grove elementary school. He retired in the late 1940's.

He was elected to two terms as county auditor in the 1950s and was director of the Morgan County department of public welfare in the 1950s and 1960s.

Survivors besides his wife include three sons, Merril of Madison, Charles of Columbus and Jerry Davee of Mooresville; and two daughters, Marian Adams and Judy Armstrong, both of Mooresville; 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Two brothers, Walter of Franklin and Henry of Indianapolis, survive as do two sisters, Mable  Marker and Blanche Roberson, also of Indianapolis.
