Johann Jorge Dieter, aka, John George Teter/Teeter wa a member of the Brethern when Luthern persecution forced them to flee from Germany to Philadelphia in 1729. The congregation was known by various names such as German Baptists and Dunkards but called themselves Brethern, Church of teh Brethern, or United Brethern (UB). The nickname came from their belief in triple emersion - once for the Father, once for the Son, and once for the Holy Ghost. Eventually many became Methodists and some became Baptists.
Upon entering Philadelphia, they were emersed in the huge Scotch-Irish immigration and rapidly anglicized their names, intermarried and moved westward with them.
As far as I know, our earliest known ancestor was Qurnus Dieter, b. 1551 in Schwaigern, Wuertemberg, Germany.
