Obituary from Waterloo, IA, paper: "Arthur Dennis "A.D." Brown, 96,
formerly of Manchester (IA) died Thursday morning, Aug 4, 1994, at Park
View Gardens Nursing Home in Waterloo, following a brief illness. Memorial
services and burial of his cremated remains will be held at 2 pm Wed, Aug
10, at graveside in Oakland Cemetery, Manchester, with the Rev James Hanke
of Manchester United Methodist Church officiating. Arthur was born Aug 3,
1898 in Des Moines (IA), the ninth of 12 children, to John and Lydia
(Glenn) Dennis. Following the death of his mother, he was adopted by
Henry E and Eliza J Brown of Lamont (IA). He grew up on his adoptive
parents' farm and after graduating from high school, he barbered in Aurora
(IA) for several years. He was married to Flora L Vifian on Feb 2, 1922,
at her parents' home near Ryan (IA). They lived in Iowa City and Vinton
(IA), then came to Manchester in 1929. He was an insurance agent here from
1936 until 1954. They moved to Waterloo in 1955, where Mrs Brown passed
away Aug 22, 1976. He continued to live at home until entering the nursing
home on June 20, 1994. He was a member of First Methodist Church of
