Jacob joins a Quaker Meeting, 1787
In the records of Westfield Montly Meeting, Surry Co., N.C. is this record: 22-12 mo-1787 Jacob Worley recieved by request. It is highly likely that Jacob was descended from brothers Henry and Francis Worley who were brought to
Pennsylvania as children by their stepfather and mother, Caleb and Ann Worely Pusey. Given the Pennsylvania connection, it would not be surprising if the Worleys were active Quakers, but, in fact, the Worley family shows up
relatively infrequently in Quaker records. There is no way of being absolutely certain from the Westfield MM record alone whether Jacob was becoming a Quaker for the first time in 1787; but, if he was coming directly from another Quaker MM, I would think he would have been listed as being received on a certificate from that other meeting. One can only speculate as to whether he was joining in anticipation or marrying Phebe (almost a year to the day later) or whether
his joining was unrelated to his relationship with Phebe. Perhaps signigicantly, Mary Worley (probably Jacob's sister) was reported married to Benjmain Hiatt, Phebe's brother in Westfield MM on the same date.
Westfield MM was set up in 1786 and the Hiatt family was one of the original families in the meeting. Previously the members of Westfield MM were part of Tom's Creek MM and before that they were part of New Garden MM of which the Hiatt family were members dating back to the 1750's.
Jacob disowned by the Quakers in 1809. Records of Fairfield Montly Meeting include the following 25 2mo 1809- Jacob Worley disowned for disunity.
Jacob and Phebe Worley were extremely active in transferring land in Highland Co., from 1813 until the 1830's.Election of October 13, 1818
Lists from the Poll Books of the election of October 13, 1818 are included in McBride, Common Pleas, and include among the electors from Paint Township.Death of Jacob Worley Sr.
Land transfers and personal property taxpayer lists, Jacob Worley Sr., possibly died 1834 or earlier and definitely died before Feb 26, 1836 because on that date Henry Beeson and his wife, Rebecca, Francis Worley and his wife, Polly, Matthew Hixson and his wife, Milly and Enoch Hudson, and his wife, Phebe identified as Heirs and children of Jacob Worley dec'd, transferred to Stephen Worley all land owned by decedent.
From the fact that Stephen Worley was appointed administrator of the estate of Jacob Worley on Mar 14, 1836, one might expect that Jacob had not been dead very long on Feb 26, 1836. Perhaps his absence taxpaper roll in 1835
was because his wife had died and he was living with one of his children rather than because he was dead.Lawsuit after death
A lawsuit after Jacob's death provides a list of his descendants.

"Jacob and Henry Worley, father ad son, came Stokes coutny, North Carolina, in September or October, 1805, to the neighborhood since so thoroughly identified with their name. In 1810 Jacob bought a small sawmill on Fall creek, known a the Black Rock Mill, and in 1815 bought the Spargur gristmill, which has since been known as the Worley mill. Many years later Stephen Worley built a gristmill on the iste of the Black Rock mill, and both are now owned by him. Jacob's first settlement was on the Vanpelt farm which, consisting of four hundred acres, he bought of George Robinson, for six hundred dollars. Almost immediately after the arrival of the family, Stephen Worley, the present owner of the property was born, and is now the only survivor of ten children. At a very early day Jacob was elected a justice of the peace -- so early, in fact that he could find no person nearer than Chillico the competent to administer the oath of office. On the Worley farm was celebrated, March 25, 1814, the first mariage of colored persons which ever occurred in Paint. The high contracting were James Newby and Sarah Worley, and the license was issued by Allen Trimble." (History of Ross and Highland Cos., Ohio -- written in 1880 -- R71).
