arms of Alexander Stuart.

Historical Notes:

(1) Sir John Stuart was in the train of Prince James (1394-1437) and King of
Scotland 1424-1437, and 3rd son of Robert III, King of Scotland.  When James
was captured in England on his way to France, and held captive for 18 years.

After his release with the Prince, Sir John Stuart settled in England and was
the first of his name and family to do so.

He was further knighted by Henry IV for bravery at a Tournament at Smithfield,
he received the Order of the Bath on the eve of the Coronation of Catherine,
Queen of Henry V.
