from AGE Oct 1981 doc F-2-2:"Gereyt was born to Crispin and Marguerite on 18
June 1637 at Leyden. Now it seems that Gerard had helped to fund the
establishment of Fort Orange in the New Netherlands. Gereyt probably came to
America to claim his grandfather's inheritance. However, he must have arrived
about 1657 when the Dutch colony fell to the English. Gereyt eventually was
recruited by Sir Thomas TEMPLE to assist in the English settlement of the
recently captured Acadia. In TEMPLE's papers at the Colonial Ministry in
London, there is a list (ca. 1658) which mentions:'Gereyt de FOREST, son of
Chrispin de FOREEST and Margrita BORNSTRA form Leiden'.
Gereyt married Marie HEBERT about 1666 at Port Royal. When he abandoned the
Protestant faith he also seems to have adopted the name Michel with
Catholicism."
