Sent by Mildred White. S/o Mark White and Nancy Ruth McMullen.
Herbert was christened in Aug 1910, in the Methodist Church at Lovelock, Nevada.
Karen Wilson's records show Mildred and Herbert endowed on separate days in
separate temples. Could this be right? This is the obituary that Herb's children wrote for the newspaper.
Give instructions to a wise man and he'll be wiser. Teach a
just man, and he will increase in learning. Proverbs 9:9Always interested, ever learning, but first and foremost a teacher, Herbert J. White has left an impressive legacy at his passing on March 25, 1999. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Hiatt, and survived by his loving wife of twelve years, Cornella Hill.
Herbert has been called a "jack of all trades and master of many." Some of the skills and accomplishments he has blessed his family with include woodcarving, carpentry, jewelry making and lapidary. He taught in the public schools for over thirty years. He was also known as an inventor, beekeeper, farmer, handyman and rock hound.
Herbert J. White was a man of honor, integrity and positive work ethics. He has set a wonderful example for his surviving six children, 32 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren. He has left an indelible impression on us all.
It was Mildred's wish that someday Herb would join the LDS Church. He had let her raise the children in her faith. He said that he beleived everything that the Church taught, except for the Joseph Smith part. He was finally baptized on 5 March 1983. Herb & Mildred were married in the Manti Temple on 11 April 1986 and sealed to her at the same time. Sadly, Mildred died 17 months later.

Was killed by a cougar while he was out with his father.
There are two death dates listed. August 8, and August ll, 1918. It is
unknown just where he died, as he disappeared in the Salmon River mountains in Idaho, that is why there is no death place listed. His father was working as a forest ranger at the time. His temple work was done for him later.Donna received some records from the Idaho Deaf School at Gooding. According to that, the reason Clifford didn't return to the school that Fall was because he'd been killed by a cougar near Warren, Idaho. (Which is located near the Salmon River.)

Belva died during a very cold season of the year. Mildred went back to Aberdeen, later, while she was taking nurses training over there and said she had a marker put on Belva's grave. On September 16, 2002, Cliff & Donna Hiatt took a trip over to find Belva's grave and take a picture of it.
They arrived around 2:30 in the afternoon and went to the City Hall, in the little town of Aberdeen. The secretary gave them the Sextants name & phone number ( Chuck Klassen, Home # 397-4524 or cell # 221-4524) The lady told them where the Cemetery was located. They drove out and looked at the size of it and decided to phone the Sextant.
On there way back to town, they saw a man & woman sitting on the front steps of a house. They stopped and the people were very helpful. They let Donna phoned the caretaker and he said to phone back in 10 minutes and he'd look up the gravesite, in the meantime. So, Cliff visited with the lady of the house and she knew a lot of the people that he mentioned, when he had lived there. She told us how to find the old homesite.
Donna phoned 10 minutes later and Mr Klassen told her how to find Belva's marker. They drove back out to the Cemetery and looked where they were supposed to. NO MARKER. It is located 1/2 way up the first road into the cemetery, on the left. The first stones say PENA, and behind them were FARNSWORTH. Donna tried phoning the caretaker again, but his wife said he had just left the house. A few minutes later, he drove in behind their car. They all walked out to the very spot that they had taken a picture of. He had to admit that there was no maker. If it had been made of wood, it would have probably disindegrated over 74 years. ( He had hoped that the Boy Scouts would go out and try to locate some of the markers, if they were overgrown by the lawn.)
We are hoping there will be a marker put on Belva's grave before next Hiatt Reunion.
Then, he asked us, "What do you want to do with the other 3 plots?" We didn't know about them. Cliff said he'd have to talk to his siblings and see what they think. It's probable that his brother's and sister's have already got their burial plots. The Sextant said we could donate them back for dingenant people who couldn't afford a burial plot.
Then, Donna asked if he'd consider our donating them back, in return for a gravestone to be placed on Belva's grave. He seemed agreeable to that. She left their address & phone number to send the proper papers to and Cliff would talk to his siblings. (Which he did. Neil, Bernice and Alice on 18th Sept. '02)
