(1) Joseph Mayse, along with his brother James Jr, had 600 acres in Cherry Tree
Bottom, in what is today Greenbrier County, West Virginia, on the south branch
of Gauley, known as Cherry Tree River.Joseph was killed by Indians at the home of James McClanahan where all of the
household were killed. During the following year Joseph's home was raided and
his wife was captured, and his son Joseph Jr,. was kidnapped as well.Joseph, Jr. is recorded in Augusta County court sessions when he obtained his
pension for injury during the Battle of Point Pleasant, receiving $8.00 per
month.He was a Second Lieutenant in the American Revolutionary War.
