(1) Thomas Bibb was President of the first State Senate of Alabama, and
consequently at the death of his brother, the Honourable William Wyatt Bibb,
became Governor, which office he filled with distinction, until a successor was
elected and inaugurated in 1821.It was during his term as Govenor that Alabama cast her first electoral vote,
and he started the new government at the new capital, Cahaba. He was also a
member of the first Constitutional Convention, and was considered the greatest
financier in the Southwest of his day, and generation. He and Astor were the
wealthiest men in the United States at that time. He was a liberal Churchman.
(1) Benjamin S. Bibb served a number of terms in the lower house of the
Legislature, and in the Senate; he was Probate Judge of the County for
fouorteen years, and was the first Judge of the City and Criminal Court of
Montgomery. he was the first Judicial officer removed by the Federal
Authorities after the Civil War.
