William Van Buren BIAS

Historical Notes:

(1) William Van Buren Bias served in the Union Army during the Civil War. He
enlisted in Company "B" of the 7th West Virginia Cavalry on September 2nd,
1861.  He was promoted from Private to Sergeant on October 25th, 1962, and
again to First Lieutenant on December 20th, 1864.  He was discharged on August
1st, 1865.  He was stationed at Fort Lee (now Charleston, West Virginia).  He
was on pioneer duty in Fairview Maryland in the Summer of 1862.  By the fall of
1862 he was again on pioneer duty near Buffalo, West Virginia.  He developed
Heart disease from hard service and exposure while in Fairview, Maryland.  He
suffered an injury to his right foot while on duty in Buffalo, West Virginia.
He was a Methodist Minister.
