John DABNEY

John Dabney is listed in the D.A.R. as Brig General Dabney who led "Dabney's Legion" at Yorktown at the time of the surrender of Cornwallis. This John Dabney appears in  D.A.R. Books #47-423, #51-647, #52-287. The information on Dabney Legion at Yorktown is in the last named DAR Book. Also, Dabney McLean, author of "The Dabneys of Colonial Virginia" cites Charles Dabney as the officer who led Dabneys Legion at Yorktown. John was a Brig. General in the Revolutionary War.

In "Marriages of some Virginia residents - 1607-1800', By Wulfeck - Series  I, Vol. 2, Chap. 2, PG 205:  Brig. Gen. John Dabney, B. 1724, Hanover Co., VA.; D. 1819 OR 1821, VA.; Served in Rev. War; M. Ann (Or Anna) Harris.

In a will book of Prince Edward Co, Va the will of John Dabney, wife Ann, Children Polly, Sally Jennings, Ann Harris, Fanny Sentacome, Judith Wisdom.  The will was recorded December 15, 1823.

Dorothy Wilson also states that in the Book  "The sketch of the dabney's of Virginia", There is a listing of John and Ann Dabney with children (girls) that correspond with those listed in the will as well as also listing Nathan as a son.
