Robert Anderson MCLEMORE

Maury County Census Records:
1860 R.A. McLemore had real estate valued at $20,000 and a personal wealth of $14,000.
1870 R.A. McLemore had real estate valued at $8,000 and a personal wealth of $800.
1880 does not list property.

Had bright red hair and a voice so loud that he could be heard in Franklin when he called his hogs.

From a letter written by Betty McLemore Prichett 20 Mar 2000: "I can tell you what I know about Robert Anderson during the Civil War or what my dad told me. He always said that his grandfather thought the war was foolishness and refused to participate. Stubborness runs in the family, so he may have been able to refuse-could have been his age that allowed him to stay out. I do know that Dad was sure that he did not fight in the war.
During the war, my Dad was told that the land on which his home now sits was used as a Confederate camp, but he was never able to prove it was. This is news to me about the use of the McLemore house as a hospital-I have never heard that story before. Dad no longer owns the land on which the Robert A. McLemore house stood-I was never allowed in it because it was so dangerous. Given the way that land is developing in that area, I imagine it's been razed."

From a letter written by Betty McLemore Prichett 5 Apr 2000: "Dad was in a chatty mood this morning when I talked to him. He had two tidbits that I thought you might be interested in knowing
(1) Mary McEwen McLemore is buried in a cemetery on the old Brown Kinnard farm.
(2) He remembers being told tales of how his grandfather (Robert Anderson) played with a group of Cherokee Indians when he was a boy."
