Evan Hiatt, Sr., appears to have sold out completely in Guilford Co., NC., in 1827, but where he went is not known. The Evan Hiatte given on 1820 Census of Indiana (Orange Co.) is probably his son; the name Evan Hiatt does not appear at all on the 1830 Census of Indiana.
The 1790 Census gives Evan Hiatt 5 sons and 3 daughters; in 1800 he had 7 sons and 3 daughters; in 1810 he had 1 son and 1 daughter, and either another daughter or a second wife. All together Evan Hiatt appears to have had about seven sons and four daughters or more. It is not known how long Evan Hiatt resided at Hopewell, Va., after his marriage, before returning to North Carolina. (1800 Census, Guilford Co., NC.: Evan Hiatt: 1 male under 10, 2 males 10 to 16, 4 males 16 to 26. 2 males over 45; 3 females 16 to 26, I female over 45. 1810 Census: 1 male 16 to 26, 1 male over 45; 1 female 16 to 26, 1 female 26 to 45.)

Evan Hiatt, Sr. appears to have sold out completely in Guilford Co., N.C. in 1827, but where he went is not known. The Evan Hiatte given on the 1820 census of Indiana, Orange Co., is probably his son. The name, Evan Hiatt, does not appear on the 1830 census of Indiana. (He would have been over 80 yrs. old if that was the same Evan Hiatt, could he have died by this time, same person or what, since there is no further information cannot define further.)
The 1790 census gives Evan Hiatt 5 sons and 3 daughters. In 1800 he had 7 sons and 3 dau. In 1810 he had 1 son and 1 dau. still at home. And either another dau. or a second wife. Altogether, Evan Hiatt appears to have had
about 7 sons and 4 daughters, or more.1800 census Guilford Co., N.C.

Corrects Statement in Regard to Hiett Family
North River Mills, W. Va. August 1, 1941Miss Margaret Keller
Romney, W. Va.
Dear Margaret, may I correct a statement made in your splendid write up of Helen Hiett some weeks ago in the Review but only recently read to me. Helen's father, Asa Hiatt, is not deceased and hopes to visit us this coming September. With him will be his wife, his sister, Miss Jennie Hiett, his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. David Hohrer, all of Pekin, Illinois, Asa Hiett's father's name was Joseph. Joseph Hiett and my grandfather, John Hiett were brothers, sons of Jeremiah Hiett, who was the son of Evan Hiett, who was the son of John Hiett who came from England in 1659.
When folks read to me of Helen Hiett's bravery of the different times and in different countries she has faced death rather than desert her post of duty; how she lost all thought of self in caring and serving for others, I find myself wondering if this woman with an experience such as few people have experienced in a long life time can be the happy care free Helen Hiett of the past. Helen's people have paid a heavy price in suffering because of her dauntless "Don't give up the ship, fight her till she sinks" spirit. Think what that father and mother suffered as they listened to her broadcast from France when they heard her say "They are bombing this building". Then her voice ceased and silence reigned and days of sorrow passed before the glad news came that Helen was safe and still facing the foe with no thought of retreat. The last time I saw Helen Hiett was at a Hiett reunion in Pekin, Illinois. She had a part on the program and for her contribution she read a poem on "The First Hiett Reunion" held in Pekin. The Author was a West Virginian. It was a happy family that gathered around that festive board that day. Veiled was the future before us. No warning of the coming tragedy of tragedies. The giver of all perfect gifts in his mercy veiled the present war clouds from our sight.
America had not sold her birthright for a mess of pottage. The death sentence of the 18th Amendment had not been passed. The assassin's hand had not as yet been stained with blood. The angel's song "Peace on earth, good
will toward men" sang at the birth of the Prince of Peace was not scoffed as it is today. And we did not know that the family circle would be broken before another reunion day and that many would meet their Pilot face to face. Among that number was Helen's uncle, Robert Hiett, an uncrowned king, and her saintly aunt, Mrs. Emma Hiett Iman. With best wishes to the Review ...
