Francis Sr. BROWNING

Historical Notes:

(1) Land records in Spottsylvania County Virginia, 1724 record that Francis
Browning, Sr., was deeded 250 acres of land and on June 19th 1735 a patent of
40 acres in St. Marks Parish, County of Orange, Dominion of Virginia was
granted by His Majesty George II of Great Britain, France and Ireland to
Francis Browning and John Ashley, in consideration of 40 shillings.  In 1740
Francis Browning, Sr. deeded land to sons Francis, Jr., and Nicholas and to his
daughters Mrs. Turner and Mrs. Duncan.  In 1747 he granted two tracts of 100
acres and 430 acres on North Little Fork.  In 1753 he bought 100 acres on
Middle Run.  These lands above were known as the Browning District.
