(1) Major Lewis Burwell was an earnest supporter of the Established Church -
the communion silver now used at Old Abingdon the parish of "Fairfield" was
presented by Lewis Burwell, and has "L.B." engraved upon it. He was an
infulential member of the King's Council
(1) Major Lewis Burwell came to the Colony of Virginia in 1640, and he is the
progenitor of the family in Virginia; in 1647 he was a member of the
deputation sent to invite Charles II to come to Virginia; he served as Sergeant
Major of Militia;
(1) Martha Bacon was a sister to Nathaniel Bacon, a member of the Virginia
Council for forty years.
