Frederick Hagenstein Shields was an actor. In the late 1920s, he had his own theater group, The Playgoers, at Kansas City, Missouri, where he performed and directed. He moved to California in 1930 and continued to act on radio and later on television. He was the voice of Bambi's father, the great stag Prince of the Forest, in the Walt Disney animated movie "Bambi."
