Opal was a school teacher and never married.
Opal Callen
Opal M. Callen, 89, of Centerville died May 9, 1994 at the Monroe County
Hospital in Albia.
She was born November 12, 1904, in Appanoose County to Williama nd Izora
Hiatt Callen.
Opal graduated from Moravia High School, attended Iowa Wesleyan College,
graduated from National kindergarten College at Evaston, Ill and from Drake
University with a Master's Degree. She taughter in Blakesburg, Moravia,
Keokuk, Centerville and Albia schools.
She was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority - Iowa Wesleyan College; Delta
Kappa Gama (Eduational Honor Society) state member; organizer of Appanoose
County Chapter of Delta Kappa, President of the Appanoose County Educational
Association; Life member of Iowa Education Association, member of National
Educational Association, member of the Moravia American Legion Auxiliary, the
Progressive Bridge Club in Moravia; and was a member of the former Wesley
Chapel Methodist Church at Hiattsville.
She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Salley Hensey, of Hinsdale, Il.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Homer Callen and
Claude Callen.
Funeral services will be Thursday, May 12, at 10:30 am at the Geyer-nordstrom
Funeral Chapel in Albia with Rev. Trevor Davis Officiating. No visitation is
planned.
Memorials to Monroe County Hospital in Albia may be left at the funeral
home.
