Frederick Daniel David SHIELDS
For a time after his first wife died, Frederick Daniel David Shields lived with Sapronia Messer Gregory, widow of W. F. Gregory. It has been thought by family and neighbors that the two were married. However, a marriage license was acquired, but it was returned without having been executed. The alleged elopement of "Fronie" Gregory with "Dave's" son Jobe put an end to the relationship. In 1911, Dave sold his property and moved to Maryville, Tennessee to be near his sister Elizabeth. In 1916, he married Laura Jordon, who soon left him. He added "Foute" to his name in later years.
