Absalom SHIELDS

Absolem Shields enlisted 1 January 1862 at Dallas City, Illinois (his home) and reenlisted 1 January 1864. He was a member of Company K of the 50th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. His military records listed his civilian occupation as farmer and said he was 5 feet 11 inches tall with dark hair, blue eyes and florid complexion. He was mustered out 13 July 1865 at Springfield, Illinois. On 28 October 1908, Rebecca E. Potter, widow of Absalom Shields and of James Potter, applied for a widow's pension.

Charles Lincoln SHIELDS

C. L. Shields and his sons Chuck and Winnie farmed, operated a drayage line, delivered Standard oil in a horse-drawn tank wagon and operated an International Harvester Store. In 1918, the family moved to North Dakota and farmed until 1924, at which time they returned to Massena and operated a service station.
