Henry T. Bloomfield enlisted 6 August 1862 as a private in Company H, 85th Regiment, Illinois Volunteers. His military record indicates he died in a General Hospital No. 14 at Nashville, Tennessee 4 February 1863 as a result of pneumonia. In her pension application of 29 May 1922, Mary Florence Bloomfield Williams said Henry Bloomfield was wounded 1 October 1862 in the Battle of Champion Hill at Perryville, Kentucky and that he was moved to Nashville, arriving there 7 November 1862. She said he developed pneumonia as a result of sleeping on the ground after an attack of measles.
