William and his second wife, Aria, moved to Bad Ax County (now Vernon County), Wisconsin in 1857. The "Shields Genealogy" lists their children as Hannah, Deliah, Jesse, Tipton, William, twins Amanda and Orvanda, Elva and Rebecca. Note that The Sun of Spring Valley, Wisconsin in an article 13 October 1938 identifies Nancy Ellen Shields as Amanda's twin, raising the theory that Orvanda and Nancy Ellen are the same person.
All of the above needs research.
The Sun reported that William and "Ary" Shields moved to Wisconsin in the spring of 1855 and says there were two sons and five daughters. The family made the move by ox-drawn covered wagon. They lived in Crawford County until about 1868, at which time they moved to Cady Creek and settledona farm a mile east of Bailey's Corners. The Sun says Amanda and David Reed married the day after Nancy Ellen and Isaiah Bailey.
According to the chronology of naming the sons, William must have been the second son of William and Margret, born in the fort in about 1792. He was twice married, first to Hannah Toothman, whose children are given as: Mary, Janet or Jeanette, Mark, James and Samuel. His second wife was Aria or Ariana Evans. Her children are said to have been: Hannah, Deliah, Jesse, Tipton, William and twins Amanda and Ovanda who were born about 1845, one of which had one blue and one brown. There was one, Rebecca, who was a cripple and lived to be 30 years of age. Another daughter named Alva, born Dec. 25, 1835, married her cousin William Toothman. Those names and dates may not be absolutely correct as we have been unable to get in touch with the descendants of William and Aria Evans Shields, to our deep regret. William and Maria moved to Wisconsin and settled in Bad ax County (now Vernon County) in 1857.3/3/2002

William SHIELDS and Margaret WILSON, Robert SHIELDS and Nancy Stockton, John SHIELDS, WIllliam SHIELDS and William SHIELDS. In checking sources I find that your My FAMILIES, ANDERSON, HIETT, HYATT, etc., and your correspondence in the WILSON FAMILY FORUM are the only places where is found William SHIELDS married to a Margaret WILSON. Other sources, the QUAKER CORNER for example, has William dying in Indiana rather then Green Co., TN. Others, Ken Parker for example, have no marriage for that William. The LDS has him married to someone else. Could you tell me where I can find documentation for the WIlliam SHIELDS, Margaret WILSON marriage and family?

In the article, Nancy Ellen is idientified as Amanda's twin. According to the Sun, the family made the move from Tennessee in an ox-drawn covered wagon. They resided in Crawford County until about 1868, at which time they moved to Cady Creek and settled on a farm a mile east of Bailey's Corners. The Sun says Amanda married david Reed the day after Nancy Ellen married Isaiah Bailey.

Jesse Shields was a merchant and an Indiana state legislator.
When his mother, Amanda Logan Shields, died and his father married a third wife, Jesse was taken to live with his half-sister, Nancy Agnes Elliott. When he was about nine years old, he and his brother Ezekiel were being taken from Madison to live with his mother's relatives in Washington County, Indiana. He slipped through a hole in the cover of the prairie schooner, went to New Albany, Indiana and shifted for himself.
At Rochester, Indiana, he became a wealthy merchant and was a director of several companies. He became known as "the poor man's friend" because, during the Civil War, he maintained prewar prices on an enormous stock of goods he had stored in anticipation of war.
In his will, written 22 July 1897 and proved 5 November 1900, he asked to be buried in the "old cemetery west of Rochester." He named his wife, Margaret, Jesse L. and Harry Shields, sons of William J. Shields, Fredrick Shields Kochenderfer, son of his daughter, Clio M. Kochenderfer, and Alfred M. Shields, his son, to whom he left property at Lawrence Minnesota. Alfred died soon after the will was written.
Jesse Shields, the oldest son of William and Amanda, was born at Madison, Ind., Sept. 20, 1820. When a lad of 9 years, on the death of his parents, the children were taken to live with the mother’s relatives in Washington Co., Ind. On the way, he escaped from the covered wagon and ran away, going to his half sister’s, Nancy Shields Elliott, going with them and other relatives into northern Indiana. He grew up in the vicinity of Rochester and married Catherine Welton, who died with her babe in 1845. Later he married Margaret Robbins. There were five children.
Jesse Shields was well known in Futon County and highly respected. He was a leading merchant in Rochester, also had large interests in land and stock. He was a member of the legislature several terms and director of important interests in the community. He was known during the Civil War as the poor man’s friend.
After Margaret Robbins death he married Margaret McClung in 1870, which survived him some ten years or more, there were no children.
The following are the children of Margaret Robbins and Jesse Shields: William Jay Shields, born 1852, was married to Frances Killen, they lived at Rochester, there were two children: Leroy and Harry K. Shields who married Mary Hurst, they reside at San Jose Ranch, Glendora, Calif. Their three children are: Louis, born 1908; James Shields, born 1910; Margaret, born 1915. James is a very fine student and minister in the Adventist Church. Harry K. Shields was a fine musician and singer over the radio and was employed in evangelistic work. His remains are buried at Glendora, Cal.

Agnes SHIELDS, the eldest of hte twelve chidlren of Jesse and Catherine Fox SHIELDS, was born in 1804 and died in 1878. She married Adkinson Hill Watson in 1821. Their children as follows; James B., married to Jane Hedges, Jesse S., married to Alice Fravel; Catherine Goodan; Mark, married Beanblossom has a son, Ward H. Benlossom, whose wife is Nellie Miller; Ward H. married a lady whose given name was Edith; Ulysis Grant was married to Emma Elwood, and they have five children; Elsie, Edith, Elwood and Estyal. Nicholas John Married to a lady named SMITH; Adkinson, married Agnes Hedges, and they have five children: Agnes, whose husband is George Hess, Robert, Frank, who was married to a Marshall and has two sons - John and Robert; elmer; and Ella, who married W. H. Flora and whose daughter is Beulah May; Rachel who married a Miller, and their children are Eli, Mary Cahterine, and Nettie; Burford, who has two children, Julia who married Daniel Neely, and they have a son Paul Neely; and Edward hwo has three children; Henry; Shields, married to Sidney Miller; Newton Jasper; and Agnes Jane.
