Martha Shields Langston signed a notarized statement 18 December 1913 that she was a sister of Charles R. Shields, who was a member of Company D., 151st Illinois Infantry. She stated that she had known Mary Burgess since before she was of marriageable age and that she knew Charles R. Shields and Mary Burgess married 22 March 1855 and that neither married anyone else prior t Charles' death 19 December 1913. A. P. Shields signed a similar affidavit 14 February 1914.
