                             REV ALFRED T. COOPER

Was born Feb. 21 1816, in Hancock Co, Georgia. He is a son of John and Sarah COOPER, natives of Virginia.  In 1836 he moved with his mother to Carroll County, Missouri.  Alfred's chances for attending schools were few and he may be justly considered a self-educated man.

He was married June 31, 1836, to Miss Micah Gentry, daughter of Robert Guy Gentry, natives of Kentucky.  Mr. Cooper's first marriage was blessed with ten children, nine of whom are living:  John W., Guly A., Francis M., Sarah J., deceased; Robert G., Alfred T., Reuben B., Abbott H., Micah E., and Parthenia S.

Mrs. Cooper died July 1873, after an illness of phthisic, for many years.

Mr. Cooper prepared himself for the ministry, by studying at the plow and by the light made by shellbark of hickory.  He entered the ministry n 1846, and preached his first sermon at Stokes Mound.

He was married the second time, August 29, 1875, to Mrs. Laura BRANDEN, relict of Jeremiah BRADEN, and daughter of John and Hannah HARTHCOTT, natives of Virginia. She was the mother of eight children when Mr. Cooper married her:  Elizabeth F., George W., America, Malinda, Harriet E., Waltehr F., Charles H. and Emily A.

Mr. COOPER owns seventy acres of land on which is nice little home.  Iti is located on section 2 of Leslie Township.  Mr. Cooper is a Cumberland Presbyterian, and is also a member of the Masonic Fraternity.

I have a lot of latger Census records of most of his children, including my g-grandmother, Micah COOPER, who married back intoher Mother's family, the GENTRYs. Alfred spent most his life in Carroll Co., MO and is buried beside his daughter, Parthenia S. MALLATT, in Oak Forest Cemettery, Douglas Co., about 5 miles from Norwood, Wright Co., MO.  He died in 1900.

NOTE:  Gary YOUNG, who is descended from Laura BRANDEN, widow of Jeremiah BRADEN, says that the name HARTHCOTT listed as her maiden name, in Alfred's biography is incorrect, and is really NORTHCUTT.  Thanks to him, I have a tintype of Alfred T. COOPER.  Picture is from that tintype.

The Cumberland Presbyterian Archives at Memphis TN, has created a page for Alfred.  Link to A.T. Cooper at Cumberland Presbyterian Archives.

Hello, Larry,  I am sure you have talke to so many people over the years that you will not remember sharing emails with me. I was looking for my Hiatt's. Samuel Worth Hiatt & Zamey Elnora Fetters.  I don't how long ago you posted the info on rootsweb but you didn't have any info back then other than telling me that we were probably some kind of cousins. You also offered to help me search since I don't know much about this.  Over the years I've been through 3 computers & bad health & friends & family with cancer, deaths, etc. so I never got back to my family search because of lack of time.  Imagine my excitement when I got on rootsweb for the first time in several years & there you have put all of the information on my family.  I am Samuel Worth Hiatt's great-grand-daughter. You do not have all of the children listed. There was Tom, May, Adeline, & my grandmother, Ruthie Rose who was born May 25, 1901. I loved my aunt "DeeDee" (Adeline) & uncle Morris. My aunt Adeline, "DeeDee's" namesake is the only one of my dad's (Ralph Lee Roy Willhite) family left.  How are you related to my bunch?  Thank you so much for posting all of this information!  I look forward to hearing from you again,  Sandra Brown
