Richard Dallas Ray and Mary Annie Stringfellow were prominent citizens of the Ashland, Alabama, area.  Richard Dallas Ray was part Indian.  His mother, Martha Elizabeth Killebrew was believed to have a substantial Indian heritage.

Richard Dallas Ray's obituary states:

"Mr. Ray was a life long resident of the county and
belonge to a large and well known family.  Mr. Ray
was a man of generous impulses, steady habits, and
and a kind and hospitible disposition.
