Census record of Tippah Co., Miss.
We find John Charles Hiett; wife; Adrian age 6; Elizabeth 5; Martha age 3. Elizabeth was born Sept. 15, 1844 in S.C. Martha born 16 Jan 1846 in Tippah Co. Miss. So John Charles probably left after the birth of Elizabeth or in the Spring of 1845 for Mississippi.John Charles Hiett and his family left S.C. in about 1846. He went with
his father-in-law William Berry to Ripley, Tippah Co., Miss. The upper part of Mississippi had just opened up for settlement, so the Hiett and Berry families were on the move. They stayed in this area until 1870 when they moved to Conway, Ark.John and Mary had 10 children. The two oldest were born in S.C. and others all born in Ms.
In the summer of 1871 the James C. Hiett family left Ripley, Miss. for Conway, Ark. They moved with their son-in-law Wm. J. Adams and John T. Stringfellow. Conway, Ark. proved to be a place of great sadness for the for the Hiett and Adams families. The Wm. J. Adams family lost two young children and Mary T. Berry Hiett died on 22 November 1873. John Charles Hiett died in about 1878. Their final resting place was never marked but this was done on 15 Dec 1980 by Edna Fuller and Valeska Vicars their great-great-grandaughters. The cemetery is located on Highway 25 between Conway and Wooster, Ark. It is called the Pleasant Valley Cemetery and is next door to the Pleasant Valley, Baptist Church, all located 8 to 10 miles from Conway, Ark.

She notes in her report: Family tradition tells that he was born in Edingburg, Scotland. He settled in Greenville district, NC, so we're told, and had a plantation there. I have been able to confirm some of this. See Chapt. XIV, p. 458 "Traditions nad Reminiscens of The American Revolution. Very interesting article I've copied and filed in my HIETT papers, article says HITE, but they are certainly related. The Anderson County, SC & Thomasville, NC Hiatts / Hiotts do indeed descend from "Quaker John" Hiett (Hyet). He married Mary Smith (most likely in Bucks Co, PA). They had 16 children, including son William (born about 1700 in Bucks Co, PA) who m1) unknown, M2) Alice Louden / Lowden in 1748 in Frederick Co. VA. I have a copy of a page that lists that marriage in the book "Hopewell Friends History 1734-1934 / Frederick County, Virginia" (p. 50). William & Alice had a son James (b. about 1753) who m. Nancy Alexander in 1779 in SC. Their son William "Will" (b. about 1785 in Greenville Dist., SC) m. Nancy Louden about 1806. They had 15 children, including Joseph Hamilton C. "H.C." (b. about 1810 in SC) who m1) Lucinda Frances, & m2) Mary K. Polk. They may be buried in Transylvania CO., NC. "H.C." & Lucinda were the parents of James M. Hiott/ Hiett (b. 1840) who was my great,great-grandfather. James M. "Jim" m. Mary Elizabeth "Polly" Chandler (b. 1837). Their son, James Lafayette "Bud" Hiott (b. 1868 in Anderson CO., SC) was my great-grandfather. He m. Tex "Anna" Major about 1888. "Bud" died in the Great Influenza Epidemic in 1919. Tex Anna along with many of their 11 children moved to Thomasville, NC about 1923. She d. 1941. They are both buried in Beaver Dam Baptist Church cemetery - Williamston, SC.
