S-Second marriage from Matt Scott, Lombard, Illinois.
S-"Home To Glory, Genealogy of The Glenn Family," by Mary Eva French Davis,
 which states the 2nd wife's name is Margaret Ellen Thomas.
Also has a middle name of Galey instead of Smiley in some records.[Terry.FTW]

Martin G. Scott

Was born in DeWitt County, MO, August 6, 1842.  His parents were both natives of Tennessee, and he accompanied them to the county in 1855, and has since made this his home and farming his principal occupation, in which he has achieved fair success.  He received only a common school education, but has added to his knowledge by profiting by his experience.  In 1876 he was engaged in the mercantile business, as a partner with John H. Stucker, of Jameson, and continued about eighteen months.  He enlisted in Company H, Twenty-third Regiment MO Volunteer Infantry, August 5, 1861, and served three years and three months; was taken prisoner at the battle of Shiloh, and held in captivity for six months, and was exchanged and joined his regiment; was wounded, July 27, 1864, while in front of Atlanta, Georgia, being shot through the right lung, from which he has never fully recovered.

Mr. Scott was united in marriage, February 14, 1867, to Miss Caroline M. Terry, who was born August 28, 1848, in Davies county, MO.  They have had five children; namely, Ruth J., born June 9, 1868; Lawrence I., born February 3, 1871-died; James D., born December 19, 1872; William J., born August 14, 1876; and Etna P., born March 18, 1879.

James GLENN

85, 97.
   The John Edward Burriss were in Pendleton in 1790 and they and Anthony were living in what is now Ocenee Co. in 1800.  Thomas and Joshua were in now
Anderson Co. The family is believed to have come from Surry Co., N.C., where
there were a number of land transactions with Cornelius Keith who moved to
Pendleton and the Nathaniel Stewart family that moved to Greenville District,
S.C.  John and William Burris (Burrus) moved from Albermarle Co., Va., to Surry Co. by 1771, and the family were neighbors of the Keiths and Stewarts during this period.  Mrs. Kittie Burris of Pendleton stated in court there 21 July 1790, that her daughter, Jean, married John Evans, who died leaving a daughter Letitia;  Jean then married William Brummitt, who died, and she married, 3rd to Mr. Glenn (Perhaps John Glenn, No. 992, below).  The Glenn family in Pendleton also came from the Surry Rockingham County, N.C. area.

   The Glenn and Tyree families of Va. intermarried.  They were in Albemarle
and various Southside Va. counties in the 1760's.  James and Patience Glenn
moved from Albemarle to Surry County, N.C., by 1771 when he and Tyree were on
the tax list.  Tyree died there in 1775 and James in 1781.  By 1790, the family is found in several neighboring counties, including Rockingham County, N.C., where John Glenn, Sr., wrote his will 14 March 1794, naming among others, his son William.  On 12 March 1794, James Davis of Pendleton sold to William Glenn of Rockingham Co. N.C., 140 acres on Oolenoy Creek, with Amos ladd form Surry County as a witness.  Glenn moved to Pendleton and on 25 Feb. 1799, bought additonal land on Oolenoy from Peter and Agnes Perkins of Stokes County, N.C.
Alexander Glenn bought land on 12 Mile Creek in what is now Pickens Co. 7 Oct
1797 but he and Robert Glenn were living in teh Coneross Creek area in now
Oconee County in 1800;  John, above, and Joseph, Sr. and Joseph, Jr. were in
the Little River area of Oconee; William and another Robert were in now Pickens
County; in what is  now Anderson County where Samuel Glenn and John, probably
his son.
   There are several additonal references to this family of Glenn in the book,

James GLENN III

   James purchased March 27, 1801, 287 1/2 acres adjacent to land of Jacob
Lindsay which had been granted to Joel Bowen, who sold it to Robert Wilson who
sold to John Barnett, from whom Glenn obtained the tract.  This was in Mulberry
- Walnut Forks area and John Glenn was shown in the 1804 tax list on Walnut.
Enumerated in 1820. besides James Glenn, were John W. (no. 608), John (no. 786)
and Wiley (no. 930).  In the 1827 lottery, granted Dec. 11, 1835; also in
Jackson were Elizabeth, widow of a Revolutionary soldier (no. 781 in 1820); and
George W., the latter in Story's district in 1827.  Anne, widow of a slodier,
was in Jasper County that year.  The Glenn and Tyree families, which
intermarried, are found in Albermarle County and nearby areas of Virginia.
James and Patience ---- moved from Albemarle to Surrey County, N.C., and he had
Tyree Glenn (see a Tyree's  -- in Lunenburg County, Va. in 1763) were on teh
1771 Surry Tax list; Tyree died in --1773 and James in 1781.  The will of John
Glenn, Sr. in nearby Rockingham County, N.C., probated march 14, 1791, named
his wife, Sarah, and children William, Mary, Sally, John, ?Abraham, Isaac,
Daniel, James, Elizabeth, and his son-in-law Darby Ryan (a name previously
found in Franklin County, Va.).  William Glenn of Rockingham bought March 12, ?
(1800 Pendelton Census, p. 85) land on Oolenoy Creek in Pendleton District from
--- Davis with Amos Ladd (from Surry County, N.C.) as a witness.  William moved
to Pendleton and various members of the family are found in the Pendleton
records during the 1790's, and others in Laurens, Chester, Newberry and
Spartanburg Districts, S.C>, and a Tyra was in Greenville Distict in 1800.  The
family was represented in Wilkes County, Ga., William Glenn married Rosa Aaron
Nov. 17, 1808.  In 1820, Jemicy was in ?Washington County;  James and Joseph in
Elbert County, among others in the state.
