Arthur Delmas Carter, 80, services were held Wednesday, April 26, at the
Crawford-Marshall Funernal Chapel in Sidney. Pastor Custiss Dale of Omaha
conducted the service and John Schachinger of Lincoln was organist. Pallbears were Don Golden, Al Akins, Martin Maher, Erskine Powles, Art Claiborne and Robert Birkby. Lela Parkison, Dorothy Adams and Mildred Fredrickson were in charge of flowers. The memory book was cared by Mrs. Al Akins. Interment was in the Sidney Cem. Delmas died at his home on Sunday morning April 23, 1989 in Sidney, Iowa. He was the son of Arthur and Irene (Hiatt) Carter born on September 27, 1908. He received his education in the Sidney schools. On November 24, 1927 he was united in marriage to Edna Booton and to this union was born a daughter Phyllis and a son Paul.
Delmas learned the printing trade at a very early age of 12 when his father owned the Fremont County Herald. He lived in Sidney all of his life with the exception of a few years in western Nebraska and northern Iowa. Delmas worked in several print shops in the County until 1953 when he and his wife established their own business, Carter Printing, the only commercial print shop in Fremont County, which they operated until 1972 when his son Paul took over the business. Delmas remained active in the family business until just a few weeks before his death.
Mr. Carter was a member of the Nebraska City Seventh-day Adventist church
and was head elder, serving in that capacity the day before his death. He had been ill for several months and was a patient in the Grape Community Hosptial in Hamburg, later being transferred to Clarkson Hospital in Omaha where he received treatment for nearly six weeks.
Delmas's mother Irene was the youngest of 17 children of Joseph and Martha Hiatt. He was a printer by trade and owned and operated the Carter Printing Co., the only commercial print shop in Fremont Co., Iowa. Delmas retired in 1972 and his son Paul took over the business.
Funeral services were held April 26 at the Crawford Marshall Funeral Home
in Sidney, Iowa with Burial in the Sidney Cem. He is survivied by his wife
Edna, daughter Phyllis Young of David City, Neb., Paul of Sidney, Iowa one
sister Veleda Johnson of Wheat Ridge, Colo. Six grandchildren and 11
great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
