Leta Darner of Ottumwa, Iowa died in Aug 1989. She was the oldest daughter of Oscar and Mary Etta Hiatt. She was born in Sidney, Iowa July 24, 1897. She was married to Phillip Darner and to this union one son Brook was born. Mr. Darner died a number of years ago. Funeral services for Leta were held at Beesie Funeral Home in Ottuma and burial in Ottumwa Cem. She is survied by her son Brook of Ottumwa. Two brothers Byron and Manford Hiatt of Creston, Iowa. Many nieces and nephews. Leta loved to write poetry and began to write at a very early age. Everyone enjoyed reading her lovely poems.I was blessed to meet her and visit a few times with my children, she was always so glad to see the children. She was a wonderful Christian lady, a wonderful poet and inspired my children to also write. She gave us some of her poems that were in booklets. She had so much to share and tell, but only lacked in time and experience to learn more from her. What a loss to all as she passed away and so much history of the family lost. She knew so many, including some I was really looking for that she had known. Larry Anderson
