April 29, 2011 Gerald Alan Hiatt, 70, of Honolulu, an internist/gastroenterologist and Army veteran, died in the Queen’s Medical Center. He was born in Berkeley, Calif. He is survived by wife Diane, sons Robert and Tadd, daughter Heather Kunz, brother William, sister Judith Tuttle and 13 grandchildren. Visitation: 5 p.m. Friday at Olivet Baptist Church, 1775 S. Beretania St. Services: 6 p.m. Casual attire.

GERALD A. HIATT, MD

Gerald A. Hiatt, MD, 70, passed away on April 29, 2011. Jerry was born in Berkeley, California on January 12, 1941 to Robert W. & Elizabeth Hiatt.

Jerry and his family came to Hawaii in 1944 via military escort on the USS Henderson. He grew up in Waimanalo and graduated from Punahou School in 1959. Jerry went on to graduate from the University of Hawaii and Jefferson Medical University in Pennsylvania. He did his medical residency at Tripler Medical Center and his gastroenterology fellowship at Brooke Anny Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.

Jerry began his practice at The Fronk Clinic in Honolulu and went into private practice in 1981. He was an attending physician at Queen’s Medical Center for 35 years and was Chie{ of the Gastroenterology Division from 1997 to 2000.

He had a love of adventure that was fulfilled in world travel. But, greater was his love for family, friends, medicine and caring for his patients. He will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Diane M. Hiatt, two siblings, Judith Tuttle and William Hiatt, three children, Robert W. Hiatt, Heather Hiatt Kunz and Tadd K. Hiatt, and many grandchildren.

A celebration of his life will be held at Olivet Baptist Church on Friday, May 27, 2011. Visitation beginning at 5:00 pm and memorial service at 6:00 pm.
