S-1820 Census, Grayson Co., KY.The Troxell Family Sent by Robert Brown
Frederick Troxell and John Troxell, brothers, came to Wapella Township in
1830, from Kentucky, bring their wives and children with them.
John Troxell settled on Section 22, his deed being dated 1 Jun 1830.
Frederick Troxell settled on Section 32, and his deed is dated 19 January 1830.
At the first meeting of the first elected County Commissioners, which was
held in December 1830, Frederick and John Troxell applied for a license to sell goods, wares and merchandise. The fee of $5.00 was paid. The license was granted, and they became the first merchants in DeWitt County, Illinois.
The first death in Wapella Township, DeWitt County, was that of Melinda
Troxell, daughter of John. She was buried on her father's land. Later, other members of the Troxell families, and their friends were buried beside her. Soon this became known as the neighborhood cemetery. It was subsequently dedicated as a public cemetery, and eventually, after the land first owned by John Troxell had been sold, it became known as "The Crum Cemetery."
Henry Troxell and David Troxell were also very early pioneers in the McLean/DeWitt County area, but so far little else is known about them.
