George PROCTOR

It would really be interesting to find anything of his origins, all I have is that he was born about 1621 and came to the Virginia Colonies. This Proctor family was very prominent in early US History, 7 brothers living from VA were Methodist Ministers, moved on to French Territory before the Louisiana Purchase, then on to what is now St. Joe, MO by 1808, etc. Some claims as to ties to Royalty, my direct line was thru Little Pages, said his name was from being the Page for the king. Have no way to know where to begin so far on the origins of the Proctor so interesting to see your name here, some clue perhaps? Did the English move around so much in the 15th,16th centuries? How far and what dynamics moved families around settlements, etc. in those times? I know some of US history and understand the dynamics here but no idea of European history in general for those times.

His son was Joshua Proctor, born 1669 Surry Co., NC, married Catherine Owen, father was Bartholomew Owen, He came to the colonies in America before 1658. Perhaps in time those names can help to place them in England as well. It has only been the past year that I discovered mention of my John HIATT and wife, Mary SMITH, dau. of William SMITH, Somerset, England that note dtd 1700 saying they were living in the Colonies.

George (Proctor) came to the American Colonies before 1658.

Hi Larry, I am not aware of any Procters/ors of my line crossing the pond, certainly not at the date you mention, but I have only found details on the line before 1837 quite recently and have not yet even confirmed them. In case you find anything connected, my lot (both spellings used from time to time) originate in Audley, Staffordshire as far as I have found. Adrian --- In somersetfamilyhistory@yahoogroups.com,
